Sigma Theta Psi Multicultural Sorority, Inc. was formed at San Jose State University by eighteen visionaries. These women strove to share their message of cultural diversity, respect, and compassion with other women. Through unity and sisterhood, our members continue to embrace diverse cultures and excel in their life ambitions. These eighteen visionaries set forth six values, or pillars, that every sister strives to embody. By upholding these values, we carry forth the vision of our founding mothers.

Sigma Theta Psi's History
The founding mothers of Sigma Theta Psi created the sorority on November 13, 1991 at San Jose State University to fill a void of multicultural awareness on their campus. They sought to create a sisterhood that would embrace and celebrate cultural diversity, and that was rooted in the shared principles of honesty, loyalty, respect, open-mindedness, leadership, and academic excellence. Since its founding, Sigma Theta Psi has remained a sisterhood unparalleled by any other, and is a well-organized society of dedicated and goal-oriented women that continues to grow strong today.
Theta Chapter's History
Sigma Theta Psi's Theta Chapter at Sacramento State University was founded on December 5th, 2004 by fourteen strong and dedicated women. Our founding sisters founded this chapter abiding by the shared values of honesty, loyalty, respect, open-mindedness, leadership, and academic excellence. Year by year, Theta Chapter continues to maintain our founders' vision and commitment to the organization as we strive for success and a life-time of sisterhood.
